New African Fashion travels to Seattle next week for a celebration of the book, Pacific Northwestern style.
Helen Jennings has been invited to the city by curator Erika Dalya Massaquoi to participate in her very special exhibition Fashiony at the Seattle Center.
Fashiony comprises three galleries of mixed media exploring contemporary African and Asian style. Hung salon-style and creating a series of workroom vignettes, visitors to the exhibition will enjoy and learn about these two emerging fashion fields through a mix of photography, illustration, film, textiles and reading materials. Fashiony forms part of the Bumbershoot arts and music festival, which runs August 31 – September 2.
Check out the Fashiony blog. And please like Fashiony on Facebook.
While in Seattle, Helen will also do a book talk and signing at the Elliott Bay Book Center on Thursday 29 August at 7pm. Helen sits down with Emeka Alams, the talented designer behind the Gold Coast Trading Co who features in New African Fashion, to discuss the rise of African fashion worldwide. The talk will be hosted by Laura Cassidy, style editor of Seattle Met Magazine, who has already kindly written a damn fine feature about all things Fashiony.
